Morning Moon Limited Edition Pewter Candleholder

Danforth Pewter is delighted to announce the launch of our fourth Limited Edition piece. Morning Moon is the first limited edition candleholder, having been preceded by three oil lamps, the Woodstock (2005), Woodland Ferns (2007), and Daydream (2009). Like its predecessors, only 300 Morning Moon candleholders will be made. Also like its predecessors, each Morning Moon will be signed by Fred and Judi Danforth and numbered.

A New Technical Masterpiece
Once again, we have combined our art with technical innovation. The original wax models for the nature-inspired motif were hand-carved in low relief by Judi. Each candleholder is constructed from several parts cast from molten, lead-free pewter in molds created from the original models. Just as the weather changes the mood of the day, you may display your Morning Moon showing the soft luster of pewter, or turn it around and it becomes a landscape painting that holds a candle! The candle snuffer is an oak leaf and acorn that seem to have just dropped from a nearby oak tree.

Tradition and Inspiration
Morning Moon represents a glimpse of the panorama we see while exploring our mountains and lakes, woods and back roads. Perched atop the strong and hopeful acorn, an intimate view of the forest floor and the long view of the distant mountains reside below the wispy aura of a full moon in the morning sky. The unspoiled landscape we live in brings four seasons of beauty to our lives while outdoors, and has inspired us to carry this peaceful feeling of renewal into our homes illuminated with the soft glow of candlelight.

The Lion Rampant Touchmark
When Thomas Danforth II opened his pewter workshop in colonial Connecticut in 1755, he marked his work with the Lion Rampant which had been used on English wares for centuries. Several of his sons and nephews also used the Lion Rampant on their work. After the American Revolution, the Danforths made new touchmarks bearing an eagle, the proud symbol of their new country. When Fred and Judi Danforth founded Danforth Pewter in Vermont in 1975, they chose to mark each piece they made with the original Danforth Lion Rampant signifying a heritage of pride in design and workmanship.
