Giving Follow-up: Our End-of-Year Donation Campaign

Mar 1st 2023

In the last week of 2022, we decided to donate 20% of sales to nonprofits that are working to improve the lives of humans and animals in our communities. Online and phone sale proceeds would go to the national organization Feeding America, and proceeds from each of our nine retail stores would go to a local nonprofit in that community.

Thanks to you, we are thrilled that we have donated a total of over $16,000.

In February, each of our store managers dropped off a donation check to their chosen organization.

Here's a taste of each delivery...

FROM LAURA IN WILLIAMSBURG, VA

"I dropped my check off at the Grove Christian Outreach Center yesterday morning and they were very pleased with our donation. One of their employees, Lucy, showed me around. I had never been inside before, and I was blown away. Our community is so generous and the selections for food were out of this world! Fresh produce from a local farm, Kel Rae Farms, along with cold case items donated from local grocery stores. They also had tons of packaged foods that were shelf stable along with freezers full of frozen meat. Not just simple things, but it was like a small grocery store.

"They had a small selection of toiletries and she stressed to me how so many people think they should only bring food, but toothbrushes, soap, diapers (large sizes for toddlers-not just for little babies), adult diapers, baby wipes, shampoo, deodorant, etc. are so important. They also had a small corner with books, and she said they give out around 100 books a month. They also have clothing for babies, girls, boys, men and women.

"One of the nicest things she showed me were birthday bags that a Girl Scout troop donated. Each bag has cake mix, frosting, candles and a handmade birthday card. That one made me cry a little.

"They have 6 paid employees and around 80 volunteers. It's amazing. It serves a small area in Williamsburg that consists of around 1400 homes. There are no income requirements, but lots of the people in the area live below the poverty level so this is much needed. They strive to make the people who come to get food/clothing, etc. feel comfortable and have no shame in needing assistance.

"My husband came along, and we left and got in the car and were just quiet. It really made us count the many blessings we have in our lives and also made us realize the amount of kindness and generosity that's in our world despite what we see in the media every day.

"Danforth, thanks for making this possible!"

FROM DENISE IN PORTLAND, ME

"I drop the donation check off to St. Vincent Paul soup kitchen in Portland, Maine, this morning. Kathleen said that donations have been very low this year. They could not be more thankful and thrilled to receive this check. She basically was in tears. It was so wonderful to see the look on everyone's faces and what it meant to them. Such an awesome thing for Danforth to do. Priceless! ❤️"

FROM DAWN IN WOODSTOCK, VT

"Two of these pictures are from the spay/neuter clinic I volunteer with at the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society. They are beyond grateful for the donation from Danforth.

"Together we made a difference in not only human lives but animals because a lot of humans in need have animals that they love so much so I am honored to see both. Thank you Danforth for such an amazing gift! I am brought to tears of joy as well!"

FROM MARINA IN WATERBURY, VT

" Waterbury Food Shelf was so excited to receive their check. I did not tell her I was doing this for them, so it was a complete surprise and so much fun to see the look on her face. Thank you for doing this!"

FROM JULIE IN BURLINGTON, VT

"I was so excited to deliver our check to Feeding Chittenden this morning! They were very, very appreciative. I don't think they were expecting such a large check, and he explained how it will significantly help them as they try to feed the people of Burlington. The center was filled with people getting a hot morning meal."

FROM KRISTEN IN PORTSMOUTH, NH

"I had the pleasure today to drop off our donation check at Gather in Portsmouth. Gather’s mission is to make the Greater Seacoast a hunger-free community. The warehouse manager Orion Redfield was so thankful to accept our check for over $1000.00! I am so proud to work for a company that gives back to the community. I think in all our visits we have been made acutely aware of the huge increase in need over the last few years. Like Judi says in one of the Danforth videos, 'What comes around goes around.' Thank you!"

From an anonymous member of Gather: "I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for Gather. Everyone is always so kind and generous. Without Gather I would be beyond food insecure. I sleep better at night knowing that my fridge and cupboards are full of nutritious food. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do."

FROM SARAH IN MYSTIC, CT

"We're so grateful to Danforth Pewter on Main Street in Mystic for donating so generously to Always Home's mission and the community! This gift will help families stay housed!" — the staff of Always Home

FROM LEDA IN MIDDLEBURY, VT

"I've personally known families that have received assistance/care from HOPE, and they are truly helping people in ways they will never know. A wonderful organization who gives so much to our community and families. A pleasure to give back to them to keep the support going in full circle.

"My daughter Ava (who also works for Danforth during the summer and school breaks) and I delivered the check to HOPE this morning. They were extremely grateful and excited for our donation!"

Thank you to everyone who made this possible, especially those who made purchases in the final week of December in order to support these hard-working organizations.
